Engineering pipe fittings selection guide: Differentiated application of grooved, stainless steel and
Galvanized Pipe Fittings
With the continuous upgrading of my country's building and municipal engineering standards,
pipe fittings selection has become a key link in the construction of water supply and drainage and fire protection systems. The reporter recently visited a number of construction units and found that
Grooved Pipe Fittings,
Stainless Steel Pipe Fittings and
galvanized pipe fittings are forming a clear differentiation in application scenarios.
1. Grooved pipe fittings: the preferred solution for fire protection systems
At the construction site of a commercial complex in Chaoyang District, Beijing, the project electromechanical person in charge said: "The fire protection pipe network is all connected by grooves, and the construction efficiency is more than 60% higher than traditional welding." This process of connection by pressing with a rubber sealing ring has the characteristics of good seismic performance and allows for micro displacement of the pipeline. At present, more than 80% of new fire protection systems in China use such pipe fittings, which are particularly suitable for places with strict requirements for earthquake resistance, such as hospitals and schools.
Zhang Fang, technical director of a water purification equipment manufacturer in Shanghai, revealed: "Our direct drinking water system is equipped with 304
stainless Steel Pipe fittings as standard. Although the unit price is 3-5 times higher than that of
galvanized fittings, the 50-year service life fully meets the LEED certification standards." In recent years, food processing, pharmaceutical, and high-end residential projects have adopted stainless steel materials on a large scale. Its corrosion resistance and no heavy metal precipitation characteristics perfectly meet the demand for healthy water use.
3. Galvanized pipe fittings: the main force of cost-sensitive projects
In a supporting project of an industrial park in the central and western regions, galvanized pipe fittings still account for 70% of the water supply network. "The purchase price of about 6,000 yuan per ton is nearly two-thirds cheaper than stainless steel," said project manager Chen Lei. The zinc-iron alloy layer formed by the hot-dip galvanizing process can provide 10-15 years of anti-corrosion protection, which is very suitable for temporary buildings, municipal peripheral pipe networks and other scenes with low life requirements.
Experts from the Pipeline Professional Committee of the China Metal Structure Association pointed out that the three types of pipe fittings, galvanized pipe fittings, stainless steel pipe fittings, and grooved pipe fittings, have formed a market segmentation pattern of "firefighting-civilian-industrial", and it is recommended that construction units scientifically select models based on core indicators such as project budget and design service life. With the implementation of the 2025 version of the "Green Building Evaluation Standard", the market share of stainless steel pipe fittings is expected to increase to 35%.
